When there was an air raid in the morning us nippers used to get up early and  go round the streets picking up the shrapnel to see who could find the biggest bit.  We used to hoard up all these ragged bits of metal.  They called Nigel Haward  “ Shrapnel” because he had more than anybody.  Nick Chandler b 1937
