Robert May’s School Certificate 1884.
Robert May arrived in Yarmouth as a small child and lived initially in the Alms Houses in Eremue Lane. He was apprenticed to Harry Lee who owned High Street shops, made the coffin for Hallam Tennyson and set up on his own as carpenter and undertaker. He had a workshop on Long’s Wharf and in Ommanney Road and served as verger at St. James’ Church Yarmouth. His daughhter Rose married Charlie Lansdowne, signalman on the lifeboat BASP. His granddaughter Eileen Lansdowne, worked at Mills, served with ATS in WWII, married Ralph Smith and lives in Thorley. He knew his great grandsons Peter and Mike Smith and great grandaughter,Jean.
