After serving in WWII, Ralph returned to working at the farm for a short while, living with wife Eileen ( nee Lansdowne) and son Peter in a tied cottage in Blacksmiths Lane. After a falling out with the foreman the Smith family had to leave the cottage, staying with Eileen’s parents in Yarmouth until securing newly built 4, North View, Thorley in 1952
