Yarmouth School Swimming Medal awarded to Eileen Smith nee Lansdowne in 1932 for swimming one mile from Eastmore to Yarmouth Pier. Eileen was 11 when she swam the mile and received the medal. Each year scholars at the school such as Joan Cokes nee Cooper, Geraldine Sheldon nee Haward,Florrie Sloper nee Knee, were awarded a medal for swimming a mile in open sea.They would sometimes see dolphins and porpoises in the Solent.
